Nyagatare District Hospital Strengthens Healthcare Access with Donation of Two Ambulances
In a bid to improve healthcare access, Nyagatare District Hospital has donated two ambulances to the Matimba and Bugaragarara health centers in its catchment area during the first half of the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The ambulances aim to bring healthcare services closer to the communities, enabling quick access in times of emergency.
The heads of the two health centers, Sister Ntihogora Gerturde of Matimba and Habyarimana Moïse of Bugaragarara, expressed their gratitude for the donation. Previously, the health centers faced difficulties in transporting patients to Nyagatare Hospital, particularly in emergency situations.
Local residents have also welcomed the initiative, particularly for its positive impact on pregnant women, who previously faced delays waiting for ambulances to arrive from the hospital. With the new ambulances now stationed at the local health centers, they will be able to receive prompt transport when needed.
The Nyagatare District Administration and the head of day-to-day management at Nyagatare District Hospital have urged these health centers to make the best use of the ambulances for the benefit of the local population. Mrs. Juliet Murekatete, the Vice-Mayor of Nyagatare District in charge of Social Affairs, and Dr. Ndayambaje K. Eddy, the Director General of Nyagatare District Hospital, emphasized the importance of proper care and maintenance, stating, "Please take good care of these ambulances for the well-being of the community."
This donation reflects the hospital's commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that quality medical services are more accessible, particularly in rural areas. This also aligns with the Ministry of Health’s program to bring quality healthcare services closer to the population.
