Nyagatare District Hospital is strengthening the use of digital technology to improve the delivery of healthcare services and make care more efficient for patients.

Today, the State Minister in the Ministry of Health, Dr Ivan Butera, visited Karangazi Health Centre and Nyagatare District Hospital, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Nyagatare District in charge of Social Affairs, Murekatete Juliet, and other officials.

The visit focused on assessing how technology is being used to support healthcare delivery, while identifying remaining challenges that may affect its effective use and exploring possible solutions.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed the implementation of E-Ubuzima, the National Electronic Medical Record System, which is designed to support the digital management of patients’ health information and facilitate their access to appropriate healthcare services.

Through the system, patients’ details are recorded electronically and health workers can access the information needed to guide patients through the services they require. This contributes to more efficient service delivery while reducing reliance on paper-based records.

The adoption of E-Ubuzima at health facilities in Nyagatare is also helping strengthen the management and security of patients’ information. Unlike paper records, which can be damaged or lost, electronic records can be securely stored and accessed when needed.

The visit provided an opportunity for health authorities and local leaders to assess progress, understand challenges faced by health facilities and discuss measures needed to further strengthen the use of digital solutions in healthcare.
