State Minister Dr. Yvan Butera Commends Service Delivery at Nyagatare District Hospital
The State Minister in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yvan Butera, on Tuesday, October 22,2025, paid a working visit to Nyagatare District Hospital, where he expressed satisfaction with the quality of health services being provided to patients.
Dr. Butera was accompanied by local officials, including the Mayor of Nyagatare District, and was received by the hospital’s Director General, Dr. Ndayambaje K. Eddy. The visit aimed at assessing the hospital’s service delivery, staff welfare, and use of health technologies.
During a guided tour of different wards, the minister interacted with patients and medical staff, checking how services are rendered across departments such as maternity, pediatrics, and outpatient care.
“I am impressed by the level of professionalism, dedication and collaboration I have witnessed here,” said Dr. Butera. “Nyagatare District Hospital has made commendable progress in ensuring that patients receive timely and quality care.”
After the tour, Dr. Butera held a meeting with the hospital staff, where he discussed various issues related to working conditions, motivation, and service improvement. Health workers raised concerns about the need for better remuneration and improved working environments.

“We are committed to working closely with hospital management and local authorities to improve the welfare of our healthcare professionals,” Dr. Butera assured. “The Ministry is also prioritizing the introduction of modern technologies to enhance health service delivery, especially in maternal and child health.”
Dr. Ndayambaje K. Eddy, the hospital’s Director General, appreciated the state minister’s visit, noting that it was an important encouragement to the staff.

“Such visits remind us that our efforts are recognized,” said Dr. Ndayambaje. “We remain committed to improving patient care and maintaining high service standards.”
Some patients who saw the state minister expressed their joy at seeing senior government officials taking interest in their well-being.
“It gives us hope to see the state minister visit us personally,” said a patient in the maternity ward. “It shows that the government really cares about our health and the services we receive.”
Another patient added: “The hospital staff are doing their best, and the visit motivates everyone to keep improving,” said Jean Claude Rwema, who was receiving treatment in the outpatient department.
Nyagatare District Hospital is one of the two hospitals in Nyagatare District. It oversees twelve health centers within its catchment area and serves a population of over 400,000 people. On average, the hospital receives more than 200 outpatients daily, making it a key hub for medical services in Nyagatare District.
